Mercedes's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over the Edinburg North Cougars. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Mercedes had a senior duo take command as Robert Sanchez gained 237 total yards and four touchdowns and Diego Bravo rushed for 105 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Sanchez really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 74 yards.

Mercedes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 363 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matches.

Mercedes' win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Edinburg North, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercedes will square off against Sharyland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Edinburg North, they will challenge Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Javelinas' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.25 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
