3A Southern recap Sept. 26, 2012
The Classical Academy extended the longest winning streak in 3A Southern this week by beating Vista PEAK Prep, 59-12. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Sierra moved up to 153 from 191 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Stallions climbed the ranks as a result of a 34-6 win over Woodland Park.
The Classical Academy's dynamic duo of Janzten Ryals and Nathan Loftin proved tough for the Bison to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ryals threw for 181 yards and four touchdowns and Loftin had 90 yards receiving. Joey Trese helped The Classical Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 65 yards.
Anthony Greenway made the biggest impact on defense this week as Pueblo Central bested Wasson. The defensive lineman recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Nikko Valdez was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 42 carries, he ran for 295 yards as the Wildcats beat Vista PEAK Prep. Damien Ruybal also contributed to the rushing game with 93 yards on the ground.
Pueblo East's Kurt Rode and Felix Mestas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Southern in both passing and receiving yards. Rode has thrown for 678 yards this season, while Mestas, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 10 catches for 230 yards. Valdez from Pueblo Central leads the league in rushing with 561 yards.
The Titans took down Pat Rock's team 59-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ryals ran for four yards in the win.
