Basketball Recap: Downtown Doral Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Marathon wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Downtown Doral, they should've done a better job of containing Juan Castro. The Downtown Doral Dolphins really took it to the Marathon Dolphins for the full four quarters, racking up a 77-40 victory thanks in part to Castro, who went 8 for 9 on his way to 24 points and three steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Diego Velazco was another key player, as he made all 7 shots he took to post 14 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Marathon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daeshawn Holmes, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Briggs Roberts, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Downtown Doral and bumps their season record up to 8-4. As for Marathon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Downtown Doral wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-41 victory against iMater Charter on the 13th. As for Marathon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 84-50 loss against Palmer Trinity on the 13th.
