Basketball Game Preview: Derby Panthers vs. South Cougars

Derby is a perfect 10-0 against South since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers challenge the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Derby is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.

Derby is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Maize South, who was ranked 12th at the time (Derby was ranked 23rd). Derby managed a 49-45 victory over Maize South on Friday.

Derby got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Macayla Askew out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Askew is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Aysia Fox was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Derby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, South beat Valley Center 38-31 on Friday.

Derby pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for South, their record is now 10-8.

Everything came up roses for Derby against South when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 48-16 win. In that game, Derby amassed a halftime lead of 30-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
