Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Comes Up Short

Cristo Rey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt an 84-26 loss at the hands of the KIPP Columbus Jaguars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougar this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 76-42 last Friday.

Cristo Rey's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nate Getahun, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 10 points and four steals, and Dayshawn Stanford, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and seven boards. That was a full 38.5% of Cristo Rey's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Cristo Rey's record is now 0-7. As for KIPP Columbus, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey and Horizon Science Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for KIPP Columbus, they will face off against Ridgemont at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ridgemont will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something KIPP Columbus surely won't give up without a fight.
