Volleyball Game Preview: Bernalillo Spartans vs. Shiprock Chieftains

The Bernalillo Spartans will head out to take on the Shiprock Chieftains at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Bernalillo lost 3-0 to Belen last Thursday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

While Bernalillo was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Belen's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-21, 25-22.

Meanwhile, Shiprock came up short against Taos on Thursday and fell 3-1.

Shiprock started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-11, 25-16, 25-18.

Shiprock now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Bernalillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Bernalillo came out on top in a nail-biter against Shiprock in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
