Softball Recap: Vanden Vikings vs. Vacaville Bulldogs

After flying high against Wood last Thursday, Vanden came back down to earth. The Vanden Vikings fell just short of the Vacaville Bulldogs by a score of 11-10 on Tuesday. Vanden was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vacaville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April.

Maalia Cherry and Mia Zabat did some serious damage despite the final result: Cherry went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI, while Zabat went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kiah Silva, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

On Vacaville's side, they got a massive performance out of Paige Witte, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Consuelo Vazquez, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and a double.

Vanden's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Vacaville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Vanden will head out on the road to face off against Fairfield at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vanden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Vacaville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Nicolaus at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Nicolaus will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Vacaville surely won't give up without a fight.
