The Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks will challenge the Hammond Morton Governors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Hammond Academy of Science & Tech saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over La Lumiere.

Noah Michniewicz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin McKimmy, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Concepcion, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Hammond Morton made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Chicago Central on Wednesday. The Governors were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Governors, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Marcellous McQuay was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Hammond Morton is 8-1 when McQuay posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Hammond Morton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Both Hammond Academy of Science & Tech and Hammond Morton just can't seem to miss. The Hawks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Hammond Morton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hammond Academy of Science & Tech suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Hammond Morton in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
