Preview: Spalding Jaguars vs. West Laurens Raiders
Spalding has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Spalding Jaguars and the West Laurens Raiders will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Spalding has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 194 points over their last three contests.
Last Saturday, Spalding strolled past Jackson with points to spare, taking the game 57-40. With that win, Spalding brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.
Spalding's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Chayce Matthews, who scored 16 points, and Jala Morgan, who scored 18 points. Morgan continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Chyna Mccord was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, West Laurens beat East Laurens 43-37 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for West Laurens.
Spalding pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for West Laurens, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
Everything went Spalding's way against West Laurens in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as Spalding made off with a 56-36 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spalding since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
