Laney hasn't had much luck against Ashley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Laney Buccaneers will look to defend their home field against the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Laney comes in on three and Ashley on seven.
On Saturday, Laney made easy work of Green Hope and carried off a 12-1 victory. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jesse Smith looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

04/23/24 @ Hoggard | 2 |

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on TJ Ziermann, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carston Wedemeyer, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Laney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Ashley faced West Stokes in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Ashley put the hurt on West Stokes with a sharp 9-2 win. The Screaming Eagle might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Drew Potter was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Quinn Bentley was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Ashley's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Laney, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ashley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Laney suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Ashley when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Laney have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
