Softball Recap: New Mission Comes Up Short

New Mission extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-2. They lost 16-0 to the Boston English Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by exactly 16 runs.

As for Boston English, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

For Boston English's part, Yanairis Guerrero Melo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Guerrero Melo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four runs.

In other batting news, Seniya Kemp and Amirah Gholizadeh did most of the damage at the plate: Kemp got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Gholizadeh went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Paris Mollo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Mission will head out to face off against Fenway at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boston English, they will face off against O'Bryant at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
