Volleyball Recap: Rancho Bernardo Takes a Loss

Rancho Bernardo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Poway Titans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Broncos of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Rancho Bernardo wouldn't go down easily and took Poway into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The final score came out to 25-20, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-7.

Poway can attribute much of their success to Grant Rodriguez, who had six digs and two aces. Those six digs gave Rodriguez a new career-high.

Rancho Bernardo's loss dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Poway, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 18-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho Bernardo will venture away from home to challenge Escondido at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Poway, they will head out to square off against Westview at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
