Football Recap: The Vanguard School Comes Up Short Despite Elsy Calderon's Big Defensive Game

The Vanguard School was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 18-6 to the Coronado Cougars. The matchup was a 6-6 toss-up at halftime, but the Coursers couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, The Vanguard School still got an impressive performance from Sydney Ramirez, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one score.

Even if they lost, The Vanguard School's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Elsy Calderon was especially locked on to Coronado's QB and sacked her twice.

Tatiana Gonzalez went supernova For Coronado., picking up 75 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 61 yards on only eight carries. Gonzalez was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 66 yards. Sara Christensen made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

The Vanguard School's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Coronado, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

The Vanguard School will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Doherty at 6:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Coronado, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 25-6 win against Palmer on the 29th.
