Basketball Recap: Alhambra Takes a Loss

Alhambra was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 79-32 loss at the hands of the Fairfax Stampede. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-12 back in December of 2024.

Alhambra lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jessenya Ponciano Medina, who posted ten points. The dominant performance gave Ponciano Medina a new career-high in points. Elisabet Rodriguez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Fairfax got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mel Romero out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Romero has become a key player for Fairfax: the team is 8-2 when she posts at least eight boards, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mayega Enow, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Alhambra's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Fairfax, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-8.

Alhambra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 52-36 win against Central on the 29th. As for Fairfax, they have also already played their next game, an 82-3 victory against Metro Tech on the 29th.
