Football Recap: Decatur Eisenhower Panthers vs. Normal University Pioneers
Decatur Eisenhower extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-7. They had to suffer through a 55-12 loss at the hands of the Normal University Pioneers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 40-12 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.
Decatur Eisenhower lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Garryon Henderson, who rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 210 yards and one TD on only 19 passes.
As for Normal University, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Normal University got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cade Cunningham out in front who picked up 134 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Cunningham was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 63 yards. Another back making a difference was Max Dameron, who rushed for 91 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries.
Decatur Eisenhower didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 27-21 win against Lanphier on the 17th. As for Normal University, they have also already played their next game, a 50-14 victory against Springfield Southeast on the 17th.
