Baseball Recap: Wingate Comes Up Short

Wingate extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping them down to 1-13. They lost 19-1 to the Thoreau Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Thoreau, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

For Thoreau's part, Lathan Largo was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Largo has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Milliken, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Wingate will host Tohatchi at 3:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Thoreau, they will take on Zuni at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderbirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.7 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
