Baseball Recap: Bartow Comes Up Short

Bartow was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Victory Christian Academy Storm. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered since February 18th.

Bartow got a good showing from Javier Delgado, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Delgado gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Bartow saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Another was Drew Fenley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Bartow's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Victory Christian Academy, they moved to 14-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Bartow will take on Lakeland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dreadnaughts have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will face off against Oasis Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
