            Baseball Recap: South Spartans vs. Wasco Tigers        
        
		
        
        
            If South was feeling good  fresh off their  14-8 takedown of California City last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Spartans took  an  18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wasco Tigers on Friday. The  loss   continues a  trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.
 Josh Encinas was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound,   tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   four  hits. Encinas was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs while going 2-for-4.

 In other batting news,  Alex Portillo and  Tomas Encinas stepped up to the plate in a big way.  Portillo  scored three  runs and  stole a base while going 4-for-5, while  Encinas  scored three  runs and  stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave  Portillo a new career-high in  hits.  Julien Espinoza was another key player,  scoring a  run while  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances.
South's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Wasco,  the  victory also got them back to even at 1-1.
 South has already played their next contest,  a  4-0  win against Kennedy on the 1st. As for Wasco, they also  didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  match,  a  5-0  loss against Highland on the 1st.
