Softball Game Preview: Nimitz Cougars vs. MacArthur Generals

Nimitz is 0-10 against MacArthur since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Generals at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Nimitz barely beat Dekaney the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Wildcats 25-7 on Tuesday. Considering the Cougars have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Marilynn Hernandez-Gomez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Hernandez-Gomez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Nimitz let Makenzie White and Maya Cid run wild. White went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Cid went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Cid a new career-high. Sophia Ruiz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

MacArthur came out on top against Benjamin Davis on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 15-run first inning. The Generals put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 18-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Generals.

Nimitz's record now sits at 5-9. As for MacArthur, their record is now 14-11.

Nimitz suffered a grim 19-4 defeat to MacArthur when the teams last played back in February. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
