Baseball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for De Leon

De Leon barely beat Hamilton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The De Leon Bearcats never let the Hamilton Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Friday. With that victory, the Bearcats brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Trenton Zmeskal made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Max Jones and Brenner Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Jones scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4, while Wright scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. What's more, Jones posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrew Coan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

The win made it two in a row for De Leon and bumps their season record up to 3-1-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing nine strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Hamilton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bearcats challenge the Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Hamilton, they will square off against Thorndale at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
