Basketball Recap: Westover Takes a Loss

Westover lost against Monroe back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Westover Patriots took a 48-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monroe Golden Tornadoes.

When it comes to explaining why Westover lost, don't look at Sydney Donaldson. Despite the final result, she posted 17 points and four steals. Donaldson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Wykieria Holmes was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

It was another big night for Kie'Aundria Acree, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds for Monroe. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Mckinzy, who had 20 points.

Westover's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-5. As for Monroe, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Westover will face off against Dougherty at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dougherty will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Westover surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monroe, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 61-33 victory against Randolph-Clay on the 11th.
