Basketball Recap: Canyon View's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

After a string of eight wins, Canyon View's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to the Emery Spartans 59-53. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 62-60.

When it comes to explaining why Canyon View lost, don't look at Maylee Spencer. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points along with five boards and five steals. Spencer has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 31 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bethanee Vargas, who put up eight points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Canyon View was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Emery only posted five assists.

Katelyn Nielson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Emery, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. That's the most rebounds Nielson has posted since back in December of 2023. Addie Hurst also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Canyon View's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Emery, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon View will head out to challenge Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon View is facing Delta at the right time seeing as Delta is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Emery, they will venture away from home to take on Carbon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
