Softball Recap: Vacaville Christian Wins Going Away Against Highlands

Vacaville Christian won the last time they faced Highlands and things went their way on Thursday too. The Falcons put the hurt on the Scots with a sharp 18-4 win. Considering the Falcons have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Elena Vizcay was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Vizcay was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Lexi Martinez and Hazel Campbell did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Campbell went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Campbell a new career-high. Daisy Stafford was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Vacaville Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Vacaville Christian's record now sits at 5-8. As for Highlands, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Looking ahead, Vacaville Christian will host Golden Sierra at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 12.4 runs per game this season. As for Highlands, they are taking a road trip to challenge San Juan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scots are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
