It was a good run, but Merritt Island unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 24-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carrollwood Day Patriots. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Merritt Island had strong showings from Kevin Verpaele, who threw for 214 yards and a pair of TDs, and Drew Sarver, who picked up 66 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Kameron Battle produced another solid performance rushing for 332 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.7 yards per carry for Carrollwood Day. Those 332 rushing yards gave Battle a new career-high.

Merritt Island's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Carrollwood Day, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Merritt Island has already played their next contest, a 35-14 win against Viera on the 30th. As for Carrollwood Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 47-13 victory against Spanish River on the 31st.
