Basketball Recap: Poudre Community Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Kevin Swanson and Heilan Barrick

Poudre Community Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 52-39 to the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Guardians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Poudre Community Academy had strong showings from Heilan Barrick, who posted 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Kevin Swanson, who put up three points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. The match was Barrick's sixth in a row with at least 15 points.

Ascent Classical Academy found their leader in sophomore Ty Colberg, who en route to 20 points along with six boards and five steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Colberg. Another player making a difference was Isaac Hutchins, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Poudre Community Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Ascent Classical Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14.

Poudre Community Academy has already played their next contest, a 57-49 victory against Nederland on the 22nd. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-27 defeat against Two Roads Charter School on the 22nd.
