Preview: College Park Falcons vs. Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles
College Park is 2-8 against Clayton Valley Charter since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The College Park Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles at 7:30 p.m. College Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 509th, while Clayton Valley Charter is ranked 70th).
College Park posted their biggest victory since December 23, 2023 on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mt. Diablo 63-31 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win College Park has posted against Mt. Diablo since February 13, 2015.
College Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mathys Joseph, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Deegan Sullenger was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Clayton Valley Charter managed to keep up with Ygnacio Valley until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Clayton Valley Charter was dealt a 66-39 loss at the hands of Ygnacio Valley. It was the first time this season that Clayton Valley Charter let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Clayton Valley Charter had strong showings from Chase Robertson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Vince Ellis, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
College Park's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Clayton Valley Charter, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: College Park have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Clayton Valley Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 21.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
College Park came up short against Clayton Valley Charter when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 54-44. Can College Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
