Baseball Recap: Denver North Has No Trouble Against Northfield

After losing to Northfield the last time they met, Denver North decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vikings blew past the Nighthawks 11-1 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Vikings have posted against the Nighthawks since April 18, 2019.

Angel Gallegos made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Denver North is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Gallegos was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Donzio Sanudo was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Santana Vital, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Denver North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Denver North back to even at 8-8. As for Northfield, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-3.

Coming up, Denver North will square off against Riverdale Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Northfield, they will take on Thomas Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
