The Sparkman Senators will take on the Curry Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sparkman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Sparkman made easy work of Meade County and carried off a 9-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Senators.
Eden Parker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Parker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Mayfield, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Taylor Gilreath was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Curry came tearing into Thursday's contest with 19 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Huskies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellowjackets have posted since March 8th.
Curry also got a great performance from Skiely Perry as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Perry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ambrey Taylor was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Lanie West, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Curry hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive matchups.
Curry's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Sparkman, their record is now 23-7-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Sparkman hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Curry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Sparkman couldn't quite finish off Curry in their previous meeting back in March of 2016 and fell 5-3. Can the Senators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
