Basketball Recap: Unity Christian Piles Up the Points Against Coram Deo Academy

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Unity Christian's strategy against Coram Deo Academy on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Knights blew the Warriors out of the water with a 58-27 final score. The matchup marked the Knights' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Unity Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emily Merema out in front who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Merema has scored at least a third of the Knights' points. Julia Van Kampen was another key player, going 7-for-10 on her way to 16 points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Unity Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coram Deo Academy only posted five.

When it comes to explaining why Coram Deo Academy lost, don't look at Kailey Booher. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Booher is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Peterson, who posted eight points.

Unity Christian's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Coram Deo Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Unity Christian is set to take on their familiar foe Quad Cities Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Knights 30, the Eagles 28) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Coram Deo Academy will face off against rival Tri-State Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
