Volleyball Recap: Torrey Pines Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Carlsbad

Torrey Pines faced Carlsbad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Falcons lost 3-0 to the Lancers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since May 16, 2024.

Torrey Pines was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Carlsbad work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 31-29.

Despite the loss, Torrey Pines had strong showings from Zach Lau, who had seven digs and two aces, and Ben Soudak, who had nine kills and three aces. Soudak is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had six or more in each of the last 15 games he's played.

Torrey Pines' defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-6. As for Carlsbad, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 29-2.

Coincidentally, Torrey Pines and Carlsbad will both be playing Del Norte the next time they take the court. The Falcons will head out to face the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Lancers will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
