Martinsburg is 0-10 against Jefferson since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Martinsburg has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Martinsburg is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Hampshire, falling 16-7.
Kamyia Cole-Redman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Kelican, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Jefferson put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Musselman. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.
Becca Munslow made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Allen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alissa Darr was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.
Jefferson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Martinsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Martinsburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Martinsburg suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Jefferson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
