Baseball Game Preview: St. Peter's Prep Marauders vs. Columbia Cougars

The St. Peter's Prep Marauders will head out on the road to face off against the Columbia Cougars at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. St. Peter's Prep will be strutting in after a win while Columbia will be coming in after a loss.

St. Peter's Prep is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Jersey's top teams: DePaul Catholic, who was ranked 11th at the time (St. Peter's Prep was ranked 21st). The Marauders put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 12-5 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Marauders, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

St. Peter's Prep let Anthony Huaranga and Lorenzo Camilleri run wild. Huaranga got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while Camilleri got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Huaranga a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Beriguette, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Columbia's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of West Essex by a score of 4-3.

St. Peter's Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Columbia, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
