Softball Recap: East Carter Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

East Carter extended their winning streak to nine on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 21-4 in the process. They came out on top against the Hurricane Redskins by a score of 6-2. This was payback for the Raiders, who suffered a 15-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Payton Rice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Haleigh Hall was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Emily Biddle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Carter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

As for Hurricane, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 18-3 record. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Hurricane's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kate Justice gave up four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. Justice has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hadley Lawson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Jaden Jones, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Carter will host Blazer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hurricane, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Huntington at 5:30 p.m. on May 6.
