Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ferris). They took down the Castleberry Lions 49-35 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Yellowjackets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Brandon Mcneal continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Qui-Darwin Cotton got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Ferris wouldn't let Castleberry keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Ferris can thank Cotton and Mariano Pedroza for forcing both of them. Pedroza is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Omari Tyner was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ferris was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're rushing yard total in three consecutive matches.
When it comes to explaining why Castleberry lost, don't look at Cayden Perez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Perez has posted since back in October of 2023.
Ferris' victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Castleberry, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.
