Basketball Recap: Calhoun Academy Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Savannah Country Day, Calhoun Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 57-56 victory over the Patrick Henry Academy Patriots. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Patriots are ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chase Strickland was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Thornburg, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rowen Croft, who went 10 of 20 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Daivon Glover, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points.

Calhoun Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Patrick Henry Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Calhoun Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-36 win against Dorchester Academy on the 7th. As for Patrick Henry Academy, they will host John Paul II at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Patrick Henry Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
