Basketball Recap: Christ Church Episcopal Comes Up Short

Christ Church Episcopal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carolina Academy Trojans. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

Despite the defeat, Christ Church Episcopal saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Saddler Fox went 6 for 7 en route to 16 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Fox is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Mahfood, who posted six points and eight steals.

Carolina Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trinity Mangle led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Mangle has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Janaria Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Christ Church Episcopal's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Carolina Academy, their record is now 3-13.

While Christ Church Episcopal had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
