Baseball Recap: Gibbs Eagles vs. Alcoa Tornadoes
Gibbs had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 13-13 to make it seven. They fell 5-2 to the Alcoa Tornadoes. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
As for Alcoa, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.
For Alcoa's part, Myles Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Cox has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eli Graf, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bleau Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gibbs will take on Bearden at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alcoa, they will challenge William Blount at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
