Softball Recap: Unionville Comes Up Short

Oxford hit Unionville with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Longhorns fell 6-3 to the Hornets. The Longhorns were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 9-0.

Peyton Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Unionville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Donnelly, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Lily Daniels was another, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Unionville's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Oxford, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-13.

The future could be bright for both Unionville and Oxford: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Longhorns will look to extend Kennett's six-game losing streak when they meet at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Oxford will try to hand Sun Valley their third-straight loss when the two meet at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
