Baseball Recap: Rising Tide Takes a Loss

Rising Tide extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 27 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They came up short against Atlantis, falling 14-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Atlantis this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in April.

As for Atlantis, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Atlantis' part, David DeSouza Jr. was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. DeSouza Jr. is becoming a predictor of Atlantis' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 5-2 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). DeSouza Jr. was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devon Paradise, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Furtado, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Rising Tide will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Monomoy at 4:00 p.m. The Sharks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Rising Tide's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Atlantis, they will head out on the road to square off against Cape Cod RVT at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
