Volleyball Recap: Avon Lake Comes Up Short

Avon Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Steele Comets. The Shoremen were not able to make up for their defeat to the Comets from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Avon Lake started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steele to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Penano, who had 20 assists. Those 20 assists gave Penano a new career-high.

Avon Lake's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Steele, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Avon Lake has already played their next matchup (against North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Steele, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Springfield on the 21st.
