Softball Recap: Shadow Mountain Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Shadow Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against the Moon Valley Rockets on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-9 win. The victory continues a trend for the Matadors in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won six in a row.

Casey Evans made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Kennedy Williamson was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Ava Maroulis was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Shadow Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .738. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moon Valley only posted an OBP of .312.

Shadow Mountain's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Moon Valley, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shadow Mountain beat the Rockets by a score of 18-3 on Thursday.
