Softball Recap: Okaw Valley Timberwolves vs. Meridian Hawks

Okaw Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch in their first game on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They suffered a rough 11-1 defeat at the hands of the Meridian Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Okaw Valley of the 18-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Okaw Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reese Nichols, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

On Meridian's side, Katelyn Clapp spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

At the plate, Madi Kapchinskie and Ashley Schelling did most of the damage at the plate: Kapchinskie scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Schelling went 3-for-3 with four RBI, a stolen base, and a double. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Meisenhelter, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Okaw Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Meridian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Okaw Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-6 win vs. Heyworth on the 13th. As for Meridian, they will head out on the road to take on Central A & M at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
