The Roosevelt Rough Riders will venture away from home to square off against the Strathmore Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Roosevelt sitting on five straight victories and Strathmore on four.
Roosevelt is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Bishop Union 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Rough Riders, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Iyanna Molano made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Roosevelt let Natalie Torres and Alicia Maldonado run wild. Torres went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Maldonado went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Maldonado a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Rivera, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Strathmore hadn't done well against Corcoran recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans walked away with a 5-2 win over the Panthers.
Gracie Gillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Mollie Gillis was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Strathmore pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their record is now 15-12.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Roosevelt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Strathmore struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
