After flying high against Ramsey last Monday, Gillespie came back down to earth. The Gillespie Miners fell just short of the Pawnee Indians by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. The Miners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Sadie Sholtis was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Sholtis was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Delaney Taylor and Ava Parish stepped up to the plate in a big way. Taylor went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Parish went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Paxton Reid, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Gillespie's loss ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
