Baseball Game Preview: Colfax Falcons vs. Center Cougars

For the first time this season, Colfax will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They are taking a road trip to take on the Center Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Colfax will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

While Colfax didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Nevada Union 5-4. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by just one run.

Wyston Genest was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Cody Tonini also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Center's undefeated season came to an end after five games on Thursday. They and Rosemont finished up their match with a 5-5 draw.

Center's tie gives them a new season record of 5-0-1. As for Colfax, they pushed their record up to 5-1-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colfax has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Center struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Colfax's way against Center when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Colfax made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Colfax since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
