Softball Recap: Westfield Mustangs vs. Spring Lions
Westfield extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They lost 24-0 to the Spring Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-0 back in February.
As for Spring, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
For Spring's part, Brylynn Rickert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rickert has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Maleah Grounds was a standout: she fired off three stolen bases, four doubles, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four doubles gave her a new career-high. Jaylin Bonilla also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
