Softball Recap: Lake City Trojans vs. Pine River Area Bucks

Lake City had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-19 to make it 15. They lost 18-2 to the Pine River Area Bucks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bucks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Thursday.

Lake City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Gibel, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Olivia Arhens also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Pine River Area, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-2. Considering they have won 17 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Pine River Area's side, Sadler Mumby made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Mumby has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Pine River Area got a massive performance out of Kylee Mumby, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Mumby has posted since back in April. Mary Nichols was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Coincidentally, Lake City and Pine River Area will both be playing Reed City the next time they take the field. The Bucks will host the Coyotes at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, while the Trojans will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
