Softball Game Preview: Central Cabarrus Vikings vs. Carson Cougars

The Central Cabarrus Vikings will take on the Carson Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central Cabarrus has four straight wins, Carson has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Central Cabarrus' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Northwest Cabarrus. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The result came thanks to Taryn Jenkins's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emma Salter was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Carson might've scored the first runs on Wednesday, but it was Butler who claimed the real prize. Carson came up short against Butler, falling 20-8.

Carson's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Central Cabarrus, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

Central Cabarrus took their victory against Carson in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 14-4. Will Central Cabarrus repeat their success, or does Carson has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
