Basketball Game Preview: Geneseo Blue Devils vs. Red Creek Rams

The Geneseo Blue Devils and the Red Creek Rams will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Geneseo knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Red Creek likes a good challenge.

While Geneseo didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 79-56 margin over Letchworth on Friday. With the Blue Devils ahead 53-16 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

It was another big night for Jackson Willis, who went 17 for 29 on his way to 41 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Hepler, who went 6 of 10 en route to 18 points.

Geneseo was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Red Creek suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2023 on Friday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting East Rochester an easy 59-39 win. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Bombers are ranked 34th).

Geneseo's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Red Creek, they moved to 5-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Geneseo skirted past Red Creek 48-46 in their previous meeting back in March of 2015. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Red Creek's Jake Slobe, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Geneseo to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
