Softball Recap: Merkel Comes Up Short

Merkel fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Clyde on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Badgers in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Lilly Nichols spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Merkel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teaghan Meyer, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Merkel's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Clyde, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Merkel will challenge Wall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clyde, they and Colorado will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
